NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University Cross Country Head Coach Keith Jones and his coaching staff are pleased to announce their recruiting class for the upcoming 2009 season.
The Wildcats are adding five freshmen and a transfer to their roster next year. Joining the team will be incoming freshmen Kristina McCrea (Padua Academy/Newark, DE), Alexis Zabielski (Padua Academy/Middletown, DE), and Amber Turner (Newark HS/Wilmington, DE), along with transfer Danielle Riley (Stevenson University/ Lake Forest HS/Hartly, DE) on the women's team. New to the men's squad will be freshmen Billy Steele (Rising Sun HS/Conowingo, MD) and Vinnie Trotta (Dickinson HS/Wilmington, DE).
Both Kristina McCrea and Alexis Zabielski join the Wilmington women's program after impressive careers at Padua Academy. McCrea was a two-time All-County and All Catholic-Conference performer. Amber Turner hails from Newark High School and was a two-time All-County and former All-State honoree for the Yellowjackets. Transfer Danielle Riley comes to the ‘Cats from Stevenson University, where she was a second-team All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) honors after finishing 11th in the CAC Championship Meet.
The men's squad welcomes Billy Steele, who had an outstanding career at Rising Sun High School. Steele earned third-team All-State honors last fall, and was a two-time All-Cecil County Award Winner. Vinnie Trotta hails from Dickinson High School, and should help give the team some much needed depth.
"We are thrilled to have these six runners join us and look forward to their arrival in August", stated Coach Jones. He added, "Both squads finished fourth at conferences last season, and I am confident that these new runners will give us the needed depth to make a push for the titles. The coaching staff is looking forward to some exciting things during the upcoming year."
