VANDER WIELE AND BURCHAM WIN XC WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Fresh off their individual titles at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Cross Country Championships, Felician's James Vander Wiele and Wilmington's Danielle Burcham have earned Runner of the Week accolades. Vander Wiele is also the Male Rookie of the Week, while Philadelphia's Sarah Simonetti is the Female Rookie of the Week.
Vander Wiele, a freshman from Pequannock, NJ, was the individual champion at the CACC Championships, running the 8k Belmont Plateau course in a time of 26:43.95. He won the race by almost 16 seconds.
Burcham, a junior from Bel Aire, MD, was the female individual winner at the cross country championships. She ran the 5k Belmont Plateau course in 19:38.24 to win the race by 37 seconds.
Simonetti, a freshman from Perkasie, PA, placed fifth at the CACC Championships in leading the Lady Rams to the team title. She was the first rookie finisher in the race after completing the course in 20:26.63.
CACC Notes
Felician - Felician's league title is its fifth in a row and its seventh in the last nine years. James Vander Wiele is the fourth CACC Runner of the Year and second Rookie of the Year for the Golden Falcons. Alex Wright is believed to be the first four-time all-CACC performer in program history.
USP - Beth Crawford earned All-CACC honors with her 11th place finish at Saturday's CACC Championships, recording a personal best time of 21:05.74. USP's #2 finisher, Allison Dargay also recorded her fastest career 5K time running the race in 22:37.46. The Devils will compete next at the NCAA East Regionals at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on 11/9/08.
USP's second place finish at Saturday's CACC Championship was the best ever by a USP men's squad. USP placed four runners on the CACC All-Conference Team; the most they have ever had earn all-conference honors since cross country became a conference sport. Both Pete Grant and Nick DeAngelis ran personal record times on Saturday while Nick Willey ran his fastest time of the season. The Devils will compete next at the NCAA East Regionals at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on 11/9/08.
Wilmington - Freshman Rodney Rosario earned All-Conference
honors with his outstanding second place finish overall at the
conference championship. Wilmington had two All-Conference runners
on the women's side with Danielle Burcham (1st) and Mary Kate
McCaffery (3rd).
