FELICIAN WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT CACC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 25, 2008) - Behind a first-place finish by freshman James Vander Wiele, the Felician College men's cross country team won its fifth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship today at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. The Golden Falcons braved the rain and wind to score 34 points, ahead of runner-up University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (54) and Philadelphia University (71).
Vander Wiele finished the 8k course in 26:43.95 en route to being named the CACC Runner and Rookie of the Year. Behind him was sophomore Jay Rodgers in fourth place (27:33.22), senior Alex Wright in fifth (27:47.88), junior Brad Schepise in 11th (28:02.77) and sophomore Chris Harvey in 13th in 28:08.59. All five scorers were named to the All-Conference team by finishing among the top 15 in the race.
The second-place finisher wa s also a freshman as Wilmington University's Rodney Rosario crossed the line in 26:59.33 in leading the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish with 92 points.
USP was led by four All-CACC performers in sophomore Peter Grant (6th place), senior Nick Willey (8th place), freshman Nick DeAngelis (9th place) and junior Matt Willard.
Philadelphia was led by junior Shawn D'Andrea, who finished in third place in 27:19.10. His coach, David Thomas, was named the CACC Coach of the Year and Bloomfield College won the annual Team Sportsmanship Award.
