Baseball Defeated at Wilmington

NEW CASTLE, DEL. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (22-12, 10-5) began their first game of three in a series with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South division team Wilmington University of Delaware (21-14, 10-5). The Rams got a homerun in the top of the fourth, but the Wildcats put the pressure on with three runs in three different innings with Jefferson falling 9-1 to Wilmington.

WHAT HAPPENED
Action was very scarce in the first two innings, with neither team passing second base as Matt Warrington and Gabe Silva both kept the game scoreless during that time. The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third. A hit by pitch with the bases loaded secured one Wildcat to homeplate, a sacrifice fly brought another runner in, and a single through the leftside brought Wilmington up 3-0.

Josh Lopez hit a homerun to start the top of the fourth inning, bringing his total to 16 homeruns this season and placing him at 10th in the nation in homeruns while leading the country in homeruns-per-game (.52). Wilmington would hold strong against the Rams at the plate, as the Wildcats would get the next nine batters out for Jefferson through three straight innings. Wilmington began to score three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, bringing their lead to 9-1. The Rams had one last attempt to score in the ninth with Diego Santiago at third, but a ground out finished the single header with Jefferson losing to Wilmington 9-1.
