Mann, Arnao Take home CACC Honors
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 11, 2013) – Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa.) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the reporting period ending February 10, 2013. Philadelphia's Tori Arnao (Newton, Pa.) earned her third straight CACC Rookie of the Week.
CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Erin Mann (Sr., C, West Chester, Pa.) Holy Family – Major: Sports Marketing-Management
Mann helped lead the Tigers to another pair of conference victories this past week, earning a 72-70 overtime victory against Philadelphia University and a 66-57 victory at Felician College on Sunday. This marks the second straight week that Mann has earned CACC honors.
Against the Rams, Mann recorded her ninth double-double of the season after scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also blocked four shots and recorded three steals and scored the eventual game-winner with :40 seconds left in overtime in the Tigers' victory.
The sports marketing major capped the week with a 28-point performance versus the Golden Falcons. She shot 9-of-20 from the field and converted 10-of-13 from the free throw line while snagging five steals and swatting three shots on the defensive end.
For the week, the senior center averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.5 blocks per game and shot just under 42% from the field. Mann also connected on 81% (17-21) from the free throw line.
Mann currently leads the CACC in scoring as she is averaging 18.6 points per game. She is also first in blocks (67) and field goal percentage (.546). In addition, Mann is ranked tenth in rebounds per game (8.0) and 15th in steals (36).
CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tori Arnao (Fr., F, Newton, Pa.) Philadelphia – Major: Health Sciences
Arnao earned her seventh rookie of the week honor this season thanks to a 15-point, 16-rebound performance that was accented with two steals and two assists in Philadelphia's 72-70 overtime loss to the eighth ranked Holy Family Tigers. The freshman from Newton, Pa. now has 10 double-doubles this season.
So far this season, Arnao is the only player in the CACC who is averaging a double-double with 11.0 points per game, and a conference-high 12.1 rebounds per game. She is also third in the conference with a 48.6 field goal percentage and ranks sixth Nationally in rebounding.
CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HONORABLE MENTION
Lindsey Lopez (Sr., G, Elmwood Park, N.J.) Dominican - Major: Psychlogy
Lopez led all scorers with 24 points and added five assists in an 81-73 victory over Post University to help her team improved to 15-7 overall and 12-3 in CACC play. The senior guard connected on seven attempts from behind the arc to earn a 38.9% shooting percentage from distance and converted three of her four attempts at the line. She also grabbed two rebounds, a steal and was credited with five assists on the evening.
Trina Plummer (Jr., F, West Babylon, N.Y.) Felician College – Major: Accounting
Plummer scored 23 points against nationally ranked Holy Family University. The junior forward went 9-for-17 from the floor, 2-for-3 from behind the arc and 3-for-4 from the line. Her five rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes on the floor for the Chargers helped her team make the eighth-ranked Tigers nervous on the road.
Monique Chance (Sr., F, Brooklyn, N.Y.) Post - Major: Accounting
Chance netted a team-high 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting and grabbed six rebounds on Feb. 6, at Dominican. The 81-73 loss marked just the second time this season she had 10 or more field goals made in a game. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native also added two assists, two blocks and a steal in the loss.
CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM NOTES
BLOOMFIELD - Junior guard Ivettlis Castro (Carteret, N.J.) led Bloomfield with 22 points in the club's only contest of the week, a road loss at Concordia College February 6. Rookie guard Nahja Carter (Neptune, N.J.) posted a standout all-around effort off the bench, totaling 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the loss to Concordia. Senior forward Dre'Shonda Williams (Piscataway, N.J.) notched 12 points in the setback.
CALDWELL - The Cougars won their only game of the week, defeating Nyack on the road, 65-48 on Wednesday. Junior forward Jeanette Anderson tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals and a block to help Caldwell win its eighth game in a row. Sophomore forward Emily Caswell added 10 points, while junior guard Marielle Duryea delivered six assists. During the eight-game winning streak, Caldwell has made 50 more free throws than its opponents (106-56) and is shooting 77.4 percent from the line. Saturday's game against Chestnut Hill that was postponed due to the winter storm will be played on Thursday in the Newman Center. The Cougars' other games this week include a home game against Concordia on Tuesday and a game at Wilmington on Saturday.
CHESTNUT HILL - Wilmington University led 19-15 after an exasperating first half, but Chestnut Hill College nearly doubled the Wildcats in the second half for a 49-38 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. Sophomore guard Lila Jones (Lansdale, Pa.) came off the Griffin bench to lead the home team with 13 points, eight rebounds, an assist, and a steal while freshman guard Tiaja Harrold (Paulsboro, N.J.) posted a ten-point, ten-rebound double-double to lead the Wildcats.
CONCORDIA – Concordia captured a 64-62 win over Bloomfield on Wednesday evening as the Clippers have won five of their last CACC games. Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) and Sophomore Mariah Berry (Southington, Conn.) both led Concordia with 15 points apiece. Agard would also add 11 rebounds while junior Victoria Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Clippers scored 32 points in the paint but were outrebounded 48-36 in the game. For the upcoming week, the Clippers (7-15, 6-8 CACC) will travel to Caldwell on Tuesday for their final regular season road game and then host Georgian Court on Thursday and conclude the week hosting Philadelphia U. on Saturday afternoon.
DOMINICAN – The women's basketball team improved to 15-7 overall and 12-3 in CACC play after defeating Post University last week. Due to snowstorm Nemo, their game at Philadelphia University was postponed to February 14th.
FELICIAN - The loss to Holy Family on Sunday marked the third institution which the Golden Falcons played who have been nationally ranked. Junior Trina Plummer led Felician with 23 points.
GOLDEY-BEACOM - With their 54-45 victory over Georgian Court on Wednesday, the Lightning have won six straight games to tie a school record for consecutive victories while upping their record to 16-8 overall and 13-2 in the CACC. The Lightning, who are 13-3 in their last 16 games, had their contest at Nyack postponed until Wednesday evening due to inclement weather. Junior forward Briana Richmond-Peters scored a season-high 11 points in the win on Wednesday night while senior forward Irene Hudson added a game-high 14 points with nine rebounds. The Lightning, who have held opponents to under 50 points in seven of the last nine games, can also tie a school record for consecutive conference victories with a win over Nyack on Wednesday. In addition to the rescheduled game on Wednesday night, the Lightning will travel to Dominican on Saturday afternoon.
GEORGIAN COURT – The Lions lost in their only contest of the week, falling to Goldey-Beacom, 54-45, at home Wednesday evening. GCU was snowed out at Concordia College Saturday with a tentative make-up date scheduled for February 14. Georgian Court closes out the week with a road contest at Post University on Saturday the 16th.
HOLY FAMILY - Holy Family (21-2, 15-1 CACC) picked up a pair of conference victories this past week to extend its winning streak to nine games. The Tigers began the week with a 72-70 victory versus Philadelphia on Wednesday and capped the week with a 66-57 win at Felician on Sunday. Seniors Kelly Brady and Erin Mann each recorded a double-double versus the Rams. Brady recorded her fifth of the season with a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Mann tallied her ninth with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mann led the Tigers with a game-high 28 points in the win at Felician. The win against Philadelphia also marked the 100th career victory for head coach Mark Miller at Holy Family. For his career, Miller is currently 155-43 (.782). Holy Family is currently ranked eighth in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
PHILADELPHIA – The Rams (10-10, 6-7 CACC) suffered a 72-70 overtime loss to #8 Holy Family on Feb. 6. Sophomore guards Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa.) both scored 17 points against the Tigers. Freshman forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa.) picked up her 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Arnao is sixth in Division II in rebounding (12.1 rpg) and 14th in double-doubles. Junior guard Megan Finn (Collegeville, Pa.) ranks 15th in D-II with a 2.03 assist-to-turnover ratio. Philadelphia's contest against Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday was snowed out and will be made up on Thursday as part of a three-game week. Aside from the make-up game, the Rams host Wilmington (Del.) on Tuesday and travel to Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday.
WILMINGTON – Wilmington was snowed out against Bloomfield on Saturday, meaning its only contest this past week was on Tuesday at Chestnut Hill. The Wildcats allowed the fewest amount of points they have all season, but the Griffins overcame a 19-15 halftime deficit to win 49-38. Freshmen Tenicia Spence and Tiaja Harrold paced the Wildcats offensively, each scoring 10 points. Harrold added a team high 10 rebounds to record her first double-double of her career. It was the fourth double-double for the Wildcats this year. The Wildcats head to Philadelphia on Tuesday before returning home for their Breast Cancer Awareness game against Caldwell on Saturday.
