CARR, ROMANO AND SIMMONS CLAIM ECAC ALL-STAR ACCOLADES

NEW HAVEN, CT (April 3, 2009) - Catherine Carr of Holy Family University, Jessica Romano of Philadelphia University and Amelia Simmons of Wilmington University were named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Basketball All-Stars in an announcement made today. Carr was a first team selection while Romano and Simmons were second team picks.
Carr is an ECAC All-Star for the second consecutive season. As a freshman, she was tabbed for the second team and was the ECAC Rookie of the Year. Carr is the only sophomore to be named an ECAC All-Star this year. This season, she averaged 15.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game and also added 69 assists, 29 steals and 15 blocked shots. She was named the CACC Player of the Year at the conclusion of the regular-season.
Romano led Philadelphia to the CACC Tournament championship and a berth to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament this season. The junior averaged 22.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game during the CACC Tournament and was named MVP of the tournament. For the year, Romano averaged 18.6 rebounds and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8-percent from the field and 83.8-percent from the free-throw line.
Simmons led the CACC in scoring in 2008-09 with an average of 19.0 points per-game. She helped lead the Wildcats to the CACC Tournament championship game, was named to the All-Tournament team and was also a first team All-CACC selection. Simmons also averaged 8.6 rebounds per-game and shot 47.3-percent from the field and 78.7-percent from the free-throw line for the season.
