GEORGIAN COURT ELIMINATED BY LE MOYNE AT SOFTBALL SUPER REGIONAL
SYRACUSE, NY (May 17, 2009) - The Georgian Court University softball team fell to Le Moyne College Sunday in a game continued from Saturday, 4-0, in the championship game of the NCAA East Super Regional. The game was suspended in the fifth inning on Saturday due to inclement weather. Le Moyne has earned a spot in the Division II Women's World Series with the victory.
Georgian Court won the opener of the best-of-three game series, 4-1, but Le Moyne won the next two games, 2-0 and 4-0. Jenna Venacore won both games for the Dolphins, besting GCU's Diana Sansevera in both contests.
In the first game on Satruday, the Dolphins opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when left fielder Bailey Phillips drilled a home run over the left field wall for a one-out, solo home run. Le Moyne made the score 2-0 in the top of the third on Kelly Schweikert's two-out, RBI single.
Sansevera (27-9) suffered her first defeat in nine postseason starts, allowing the two runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out nine, in the complete game effort.
Vanacore improved to 22-4 on the year, scattering two hits and a walk in the complete game shutout.
The second game was suspended in the fifth inning due to rain with Le Moyne winning, 2-0. The Lions weren't able to mount a comeback in their final two at-bats in the 4-0 loss. Venacore hurled her second straight shutout to lead the Dolphins.
Georgian Court, which won the CACC Tournament Championship this season, concludes the campaign with a 40-17 record, while Le Moyne is now 45-11.
