Caldwell's Marks Named 23-24 CACC Bowler/Yr; All-League Teams Announced
2023-24 CACC WOMEN'S BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 21, 2024) -- Caldwell University standout Lauren Marks on Thursday was named the 2023-24 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Bowler of the Year as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Marks, who was also placed on the All-CACC First Team, earned the honors via voting that was conducted by the league's seven head coaches in the sport.
In addition to Marks, a pair of Felician University individuals took the other two major awards including Vivian Luna being named the CACC Rookie of the Year and Rusty Thomsen being named the conference's coach of the year. Chestnut Hill College was tabbed as the CACC Bowling Team Sportsmanship Award winner.
Marks leads the conference in several categories this season including scoring average (overall - 19.702; traditional format - 19.729 & baker format - 19.682), frame fill percentage (overall - 83.7%; traditional format - 84.0% & baker format - 83.5%), overall strike percentage (48.3%), baker format strike percentage (47.9%), overall individual single pin spare percentage (88.4%), traditional format individual single pin spare percentage (89.9%), and many other categories as well. She helped guide the Cougars to a strong regular season including a combined record of 15-5 in the two conference regular season matches that determined qualification and seeding for this weekend's CACC Championship at Pike Lanes in Southampton, Pa.
Luna has had an excellent debut season at the collegiate level as she leads the conference in 10th frame fill percentage as the anchor bowler in baker format competition (83.7%). She leads all rookies and ranks third in the conference in overall individual scoring average (18.963) and baker format scoring average (19.078). She has filled 78.5 percent of her overall frames this season which is fourth best in the league and tops among rookies. Luna was also placed on the All-CACC First Team as well.
Thomsen earned the league's coach-of-the-year honor after guiding the Golden Falcons to a third-place finish in the team standings following the two regular season matches.
All major award winners and all-conference honorees will be honored later this evening at the CACC Bowling Championship Banquet which will be held on the Chestnut Hill College campus in Philadelphia.
