Jefferson Claims 1st MXC Title Since 2017

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 24, 2021) -- Sparked by five runners who finished among the top-15 in the individual standings, the Thomas Jefferson University men's cross country team on Sunday captured its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship since 2017 with a first-place score of 42 points at the league championship race at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
Earlier in the day, Jefferson's women's squad won its league championship race, as it marked the fourth time under head ccoach Dave Thomas that Jefferson swept the men's and women's events in the same season (2009, 2014 & 2017).
Georgian Court University finished second in the standings with 63 points, as the Lions were led by Xavier Seals, who won the individual championship in an 8k time of 27:26.7. By winning the race he locked CACC Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors in the sport of men's cross country.
HOW JEFFERSON DID IT
Jefferson claimed the men's team title with five runners earning All-CACC honors with top-15 finishes. Owen Bradley was the highest Ram runner in the race, as he placed second in a time of 27:28.0. Following Bradley included Dan Forry (5th, 27:59.9), Tyler Daley (8th, 28:25.2), Leonard Bustos (13th, 28:44.5) and Blake Corbett (15th, 28:49.0).
GCU'S STRONG SECOND-PLACE SHOWING
In addition to Seals, two other Lions earned all-league status. Kevin Knoetig and Kyle Spector turned in back-to-back 11th and 12th place finishes, respectively, to lead Georgian Court to a fine showing on Sunday. Knoetig's mark was 28:40.2, while Spector's time was 28:41.7.
SEVERAL SCHOOLS REPRESENTED ON ALL-CACC TEAM
In all, seven schools were represented on the All-CACC Team with at least one runner earning all-league status. In addition to the eight runners listed above, the seven remaining All-CACC honorees included:
