PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 25, 2015) – Four Wildcats finished among the top-15 in the individual standings to spearhead a superior effort by Wilmington University on Sunday to claim the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Championship at Belmont Plateau Park in Philadelphia, Pa.
Ken Fontal was the first Wildcat to cross the finish line, as he placed second with a time of 27:33.9. He was only bested by Chestnut Hill College standout Giancarlo Martines, who claimed the individual crown and CACC Runner-of-the-Year honor with a first-place performance of 27:08.6. Martines, a sophomore, also earned All-CACC honors, marking the second time in as many collegiate seasons he received the recognition. Chestnut Hill finished fifth behind Martines’ brilliant effort, as the Griffins had 157 points.
Fontal’s runner-up showing led to other outstanding individual efforts from the Wilmington squad, including Kevin McLaughlin (8th, 28:30.2), Andrew Milham (12th, 28:49) and Miguel Suero (15th, 29:13). The win marked WilmU’s third men’s conference title in the last four seasons.
Nyack College finished in second place with 80 points, led by freshman Ian Mirtle, who placed fourth in a time of 28:05.6. His finish was the best by a freshman harrier in the championship, which allowed Mirtle to be named CACC Rookie of the Year.
The top-15 runners in the championship race earned all-conference honors. For a complete list of all the award winners from Sunday’s race, please view the list below:
