DOMINICAN SWEEPS WILMINGTON TO CLAIM 2012 CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
2012 CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL STATS
WILMINGTON, Del. (November 10, 2012) – Dominican College captured the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 (25-19, 31-29, 25-14) win over Wilmington University on Saturday afternoon.
The title marks Dominican's first-ever CACC Championship in the sport of volleyball and runs its overall record on the season to 26-7. Wilmington falls to 28-6 following the loss.
Dominican won the opening set 25-19 by rallying to out-score Wilmington 12-3 after trailing 16-13. The Chargers posted 16 kills in the first frame and hit .213 overall.
Game two was a tightly contested battle that saw Dominican hold on for a 31-29 victory that was capped when a dig by Jordyn Fuller dropped in for a point to clinch the win and a 2-0 set advantage for the Chargers. Dominican posted a .214 hitting percentage in the second frame, while limiting the Wildcats to a .148 clip.
The Chargers clinched the championship with a 25-14 game three victory. Dominican rallied to take control after initially falling behind 5-0, but scored 10 of the next 11 points to open a 10-6 advantage that it would not relinquish.
Michelle Fiorvanti (Dominican) was named the tournament's most valuable player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Jordyn Fuller (Dominican), Whitney Ranger (Dominican), Nicole Wiechecki (Wilmington), Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Wilmington), Danielle Carney (Philadelphia), Emily Wilman (Post), Susan McDonough (Caldwell), Amanda DeAngelo (USciences), Moana Masaniai (Nyack) and Amy Berry (Georgian Court).
