Jefferson's Cassie Murphy CACC S-A of the Month for February
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 10, 2024) -- Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball standout Cassie Murphy on Wednesday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for February, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Murphy earned the honor for demonstrating success on the hardwood during the month, while also being a standout in the classroom and giving back to her local community.
On the basketball court, Murphy averaged 13.4 points per game during the month including topping 20 points twice. She helped guide the Rams to a perfect 8-0 record during February and clinching the CACC South Division Championship. She shot 54 percent from the field in all eight games (44-of-81). Murphy also grabbed 7.4 rebounds a game.
Murphy, a junior accounting major from Bethlehem, Pa., boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. She earned the CACC Women's Basketball Championship Top XVII Award at the conference tournament back in early March. She has also been named to the CACC Women's Basketball All-Academic Team and the Fall 2023 CACC Academic Honor Roll.
In her local community, Murphy has taken part in fundraising activities for Special Olympics, while also serving as her team's chair for conducting a basketball tournament and youth clinic at a local elementary school. She has also taken part in volunteering at the Beats for Bella Golf Tournament for children with heart issues.
The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award is handed out each month from September through May, spanning the course of the academic calendar. The award recognizes athletic and academic success, and community engagement.
