GEORGIAN COURT WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
LAKEWOOD, NJ (November 14, 2009) - Georgian Court University claimed its fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia University today in Lakewood, NJ. The Lions have earned the CACC's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. The field will be announced later this weekend.
Georgian Court upended the Lady Rams in the championship match for the second consecutive season. The scores were 25-16, 25-20, 17-25 and 25-13. GCU improves to 27-9 with the win, while Philadelphia falls to 32-6.
GCU freshman Brandi Arsenault was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player, while seniors Janelle Murdock and Lisamary Figueroa were selected to the All-Tournament team. Seniors Molly Malone and Cindy Adams earned All-Tournament distinction from Philadelphia.
Seniors Stephanie Rivera and Lisette Zayas led the Lions with 12 kills apiece, while Zayas provided 16 digs. Murdock added 15 digs and six kills, while Aresenault had nine kills at a .280 hitting percentage. Figueroa handed out 36 assists and added 16 digs and seven kills.
Senior Celena Rendon recorded seven kills and 14 digs for Philadelphia, while Natalie Amodei led the team with 20 digs.
