GEORGIAN COURT WINS CACC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Georgian Court University won the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Championship by defeating Philadelphia University today, 3-0, at Bobby Morgan Arena on the campus of USP. As a result of the victory, the Lions have garnered the CACC's automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships.

Georgian Court (21-11), who was the second seed in the tournament, won by scores of 30-26, 30-27 and 30-23 over the top-seeded Rams.

Tournament MVP Ann Casado led the Lions with 14 kills and 11 digs, while freshman outside hitter Lissette Zayas added 11 kills at a .455 attack percentage and a team-high 13 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Billeny Rivera contributed seven kills and junior Rebecca Walczak came up with 12 digs from her libero position.

Freshman Nicole Berkstresser led Philadelphia (25-4) with seven kills, while freshman outside hitter Celena Rendon added six kills and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Emily Krauss led the Rams with 14 digs.

The field for the 2006 NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament will be announced Monday.
