NEW HAVEN, CT (Oct. 21, 2010) - Concordia College senior Ola Roberts has been selected the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year in balloting released today. Philadelphia University’s Isabella Espinosa was named Rookie of the Year, and Chestnut Hill College’s Albert Stroble was voted the Skor Coach of the Year. The annual Team Sportsmanship Award was given to Post University. Voting was conducted by the nine head coaches.
In addition to Roberts and Espinosa, Chestnut Hill’s Nastia Shcherbakova and Holy Family University’s Juliana Victoria were first team All-Conference picks. The second team consists of three Concordia players in sophomores Yuliya Plevako and Adeline Brennan and junior Maria Ortiz, along with Holy Family’s Jin Querubin.
Roberts, who is from Bucharest, Romania, is undefeated this year in dual matches with a 9-0 singles record and a 6-0 mark in doubles. Roberts and her partner, Yuliya Plevako, recently finished in sixth place at the ITA National Doubles Championship in Mobile, Alabama. They earned the trip to nationals by virtue of winning the East Region Doubles Championship in September. She also went 9-4 in doubles play, with 12 of those matches coming at the No. 1 spot. She concluded the season with six straight wins in singles play.
Stroble guided the Griffins to their first CACC postseason appearance this season, in just their fourth year as a Division II program. CHC went 5-3 in conference play and 8-6 overall in the fall, a year after going 3-17 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
