CHESTNUT HILL'S RIIFF TABBED CACC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 1, 2011) - Lauren Riiff of Chestnut Hill College has been tabbed the 2011 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Player of the Year, as balloting for the All-Conference team was released. Riiff was also named Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2009. Post University freshman forward Elin Nyman was selected Rookie of the Year, while George Dunbar of Philadelphia University was voted Coach of the Year. Concordia College claimed the annual Team Sportsmanship Award.
Riiff, a 5-6 senior forward from Clementon, N.J., has amassed 50 career goals and 118
career points to sit atop the program's record book in both categories. Riiff is a four-time All-CACC performer, and was also named Player of the Year as a sophomore. She garnered Daktronics All-East Region recognition at the conclusion of the 2009 season. She has guided the Griffins to three straight CACC Tournament appearances, including the No. 2 seed last season after leading the team to a program-best 14-4-2 overall record and a 10-1-1 mark in the CACC. This season, Riiff leads the CACC in goals with 18 and points with 40. She tallied multiple goals in three of the last five regular-season games, including a pair of three-goal performances against Concordia and Wilmington.
Nyman, a freshman forward from Sweden, missed the first three games of the 2011 season, but has been on a roll since the Molloy game on September 19. Nyman scored at least one goal in nine games this season, including three goals in a 4-2 win at Wilmington. Nyman scored multiple goals in a game four times, and at one point led the nation in goals per-contest. She finished the regular-season ranked third in the conference in both points (30) and goals (14) in just 12 matches played.
Philadelphia University cruised to a CACC regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament under the guidance of George Dunbar, who is in his 14th season with the program. The Rams went 12-0 in conference play and out-scored their opposition, 32-2. PhilaU is 14-2-2 overall and will be looking for their first CACC championship since 2006.
