Hubert Theriault Sweeps Major MTEN Awards
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 19, 2022) -- Thomas Jefferson University standout Hubert Theriault on Tuesday was named the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Theriault was also named to the All-CACC First Team, as the voting for the all-conference and major awards was conducted by the league's five head coaches in the sport.
In addition to Theriault, Chestnut Hill College's Eric Gibson was named the CACC Coach of the Year after guiding the Griffins to a 7-1 mark in league play and a share of the CACC Regular Season Championship.
Theriault is 12-4 this season in singles competition, as all 16 matches have come at the No. 1 spot in the Rams' lineup. He has collected at least one win against each other No. 1 player in the CACC this season. Theriault has also teamed up with several teammates this season to post a 14-2 record at No. 1 doubles. Eight of Theriault's 12 singles wins this season have come in straight-sets.
The other major award handed out on Tuesday was the CACC Men's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award, which was earned by two programs including Chestnut Hill and Dominican College.
The CACC will recognize the award winners Thursday night at the CACC Men's Tennis Championship Banquet at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa.
