WATERTOWN, Conn. (October 2, 2023) -- Post University carded rounds of 281 and 288 in the first and second rounds, respectively on Monday, to lead after Day 1 of the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Golf Championship with a two-round total of 569 (+1). Goldey-Beacom College's Hunter McGee posted a three-under-par, 68, in the morning's first 18 holes, then responded with an even-par, 71, in the afternoon to lead after the first day with a two-round mark of 139 (-3). The tournament is being contested at Watertown Golf Club in Watertown, Conn.
The championship will conclude on Tuesday with the final round, which will begin at 8:30 a.m.
TEAM TITLE RACE
The Eagles hold a one-shot lead over second-place G-B heading into the final round. The Lightning posted a 570 (+2) on Monday. Dominican University is in third at +15, Wilmington University is fourth at +33, Thomas Jefferson University is fifth at +44, Felician University is sixth at +48, while Chestnut Hill College is seventh at +72.
Post benefited from having four of its five golfers rank among the top 10 in the individual standings following Monday. Ethan Phillips and Bill Koch are tied for second at two-under-par, as both 140s during the day. Koch had an opening-round, 67 (-4), while Phillips carded a 69 (-2) in the afternoon.
Ian Wivestad is eighth at 144 (+2) and Jace Carlisle is tied for ninth at 145 (+3). Wivestad's best round on the day was an even-par, 71, in the morning, and Carlisle's was a one-over, 72, in the morning as well.
McGee was one of three Lightning golfers who were ranked among the top 10 after Monday. Pablo Saenz Avila is fifth at 142 (E) and Samur is tied for sixth at 143 (+1). Saenz Avila had the low round of the tournament so far with a 65 (-6) in the second round.
INDIVIDUAL TITLE RACE
The top-five and ties in the individual standings following completion of play on Tuesday will earn All-Tournament status. In addition to the individuals mentioned above, several other competitors on various teams also have a shot at all-tournament honors. Dominican's Alejandro Gomez is fifth at 141 (-1) and WilmU's Tyler Cleaves is tied for sixth with Samur at 143. Gomez had a two-under 69 in the second round and Cleaves had a one-under, 70, in the morning.
EVEN OR UNDER PAR ROUNDS
Monday featured 11 total rounds of even or under par by nine different golfers. Six rounds were in the 60s.
