USciences Shaw Named CACC Player of the Year
NEW HAVEN, CT (February 28, 2011) – University of the Sciences senior power forward Caitlin Shaw has been named the 2010-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year, as the All-Conference team was released today.
Shaw (Monmouth Regional High School/Eatontown, N.J.)made the jump from being an honorable mention All-CACC pick last season to claim Player of the Year this season. Entering postseason play, Shaw leads the CACC and ranks eighth in the nation in scoring with 20.0 points per-game. She scored in double figures in every game this season, registered 10 double-doubles and poured in a conference-high 34 points in November against Bloomsburg. She also stands fourth in the conference in rebounding (9.6), second in field-goal percentage (.552) and 12th in free-throw percentage (.765). Shaw has led the Devils to a No. 7 regional ranking and a No. 2 seed in the South Division in the CACC Tournament. USciences is 21-5 overall and went 16-3 in conference play and will host Goldey-Beacom College Monday night in the opening round.
This season, Shaw has earned CACC Player of the Week honors three-times and was named to the conference honor roll seven times. Caitlin set a school record earlier this year by making 16 free throws against Chestnut Hill College. Shaw also produced the third best single game shooting performance, an 11-12 effort (91.7%) at Philadelphia University, making her first ten shots and scoring 25 points in the Devils win over the Lady Rams.
Shaw recorded her 1,000th career point against Wilmington on January 13th and now stands in ninth place on the Devils all-time scoring list with 1,219 points. She also ranks tenth on USciences' all-time rebound list with 574.
The former Monmouth Regional High School athlete is in her fourth and final season of competition for the Devils. Caitlin is a physical therapy major in her first professional year and fourth overall in the institution's Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program. She is on target to graduate in May 2013.
Joining Shaw on the CACC All-conference team is senior guard/small forward Colleen Christian (Central Bucks South High School/Warrington, Pa.). Christian earned all-conference honors as a third team selection. The Warrington, Pennsylvania native is having a career year in 2010-11, averaging 11.9 points per game while leading the Devils in assists (95), free throw percentage (85.9%) and three-point field goals made (47). Entering the post-season, Christian ranks second in the CACC in free throw percentage and 20th nationally. She also ranks fifth in the conference in assists (3.65); third in assist/turnover ratio (1.56) and 19th in scoring (11.9).
Christian's 47 three-point field goals made is the seventh highest single season total in program history. She currently ranks fourth on the Devils all-time list with 115 three-point field goals in her career. Christian has scored 683 points during her career (25th best all-time) and has 218 career assists (13th all-time)
The former Central Bucks South High School athlete is in her fourth and final season of play for the Devils. Colleen is a pharmacy major in her second professional and fourth overall in the institution's doctor of Pharmacy degree program. She is on target to graduate in May 2013.
