DOMINICAN EDGES POST ON PENALTY KICKS TO CLAIM 2012 CACC MEN’S SOCCER CROWN
WATERBURY, Conn. (November 4, 2012) – No.
2 seed Dominican College claimed its sixth Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament Title as it
outlasted No. 1 seed Post University in a tightly-contested match
that was eventually decided on penalty kicks.
The Chargers tournament championship marks their second in the last
three seasons overall.
The two teams played a physical first half, which saw neither team
able to get on the scoreboard and few chances to, as both squads
combined for a total of six shots heading into intermission.
Dominican (10-5-4) finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute
when senior Alex Rodier (Williamstown, Md.) put away a shot off an
assist from Dennis Kcira (New City, N.Y.).
Post (13-3-5) responded at 80:22 when 2012 CACC Men’s Soccer
Player of the Year Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn)
headed home a corner from Jon Dzurilla
(Torrington, Conn.) to send the game into overtime.
Following 20 minutes of scoreless play in overtime, Dominican
bested Post 3-2 on penalty kicks to claim the conference title.
Dominican goalkeeper Andre Ruiz (Medelliv,
Colombia) made a stop on Post’s final penalty attempt to seal
the win and earn tournament most valuable player honors. He
was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Manual Valencia
(Dominican), Christopher Walsh (Dominican), Rodier (Dominican),
Clodalain Lolo (Dominican), Baccielo (Post), Errol Reid (Post),
Raphael Moura (Post), Felix Horn (Nyack), Marko Likos (Nyack),
Spyros Stergiotis (Wilmington) and Otis Williams (Wilmington).
