MIDDLETOWN, DE - Post University won its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Golf Championship Tuesday afternoon at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, DE. The Eagles edged Goldey-Beacom College by just one stroke, 311-312. Jonathan Carr of Nyack College won the individual title, firing a one-over-par 72, while Post freshman Lee Wanklyn shot a 74 to take home Rookie of the Year honors. Post's Tommy Dorso, Jr. was voted Coach of the Year and Nyack earned the annual Team Sportsmanship Award. The tournament was originally scheduled to be a 36-hole event, but rain and wind forced the opening round to be canceled.
By virtue of winning the CACC Championship, Post has earned the conference's automatic bid to the Division II Northeast Region Tournament which will be held on May 7-9 at Speidel Golf Club in Wheeling, WV. The complete field for the event will be announced on a later date. Goldey-Beacom won last year's regional tournament to advance to the NCAA National Championships.
Dominican College finished third in the tournament for the second consecutive year with a combined score of 316. Nyack finished fourth with a 317 and the tournament host, Wilmington College, finished fifth with a 323. The rest of the field was rounded out by Holy Family (327), Philadelphia (338), USP (340), Felician (367) and Caldwell (392).
Post was led by freshman Lee Wanklyn, a native of England, who was able to fire a 74 to place third overall despite the windy and cold weather. Sophomore Lloyd Notely also earned All-Conference honors by tying for fourth place with five other golfers with a round of 76. The top 10 finishers earned All-CACC accolades. Junior Calum Malcolm was third on the team, shooting an 80 for the round. Sophomore Jamie Blake recorded an 81, and freshman Josh Ralton rounded out the team with an 86.
Carr, a senior from Aurora, Ontario, Canada, enjoyed an outstanding day and fired a 72 to win the individual title. He squeaked past defending individual champion, Steve Cutler of Goldey-Beacom, by one stroke, 71-72. Carr tied for fifth in last year's tournament. Post's Wanklyn was third and he was followed by five golfers who all shot a 76; junior Brian Mackey and sophomore A.J. Lee of Dominican, freshman John Radick and junior Ed Szambelak of Holy Family and Notely. Nyack junior Andrew Barajikian and Felician freshman Joe Peters concluded the top-10 by both carding a 77.
