WILMINGTON'S BURCHAM NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM
NEW CASTLE, DE (June 9, 2009) - Wilmington University junior cross country standout, Danielle Burcham (C. Milton Wright HS/Bel Air, MD) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team.
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Year this past fall, Burcham becomes the first person in Wilmington University history to earn such an honor. A District II award winner, she is now up for selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team.
Burcham set a school record when the captured the CACC Championship last fall, covering the 5K course in 19:38. She followed that up with a 14th place finish at the NCAA East Regional (23:43:90 for the 6K course), and became the first runner in Wilmington history to earn All-Region accolades. In her eight races this season, Danielle placed in the top 15 in each one, and also was an All-CACC selection for the third straight year.
A two-time Academic All-CACC and United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America (USTFCCCA) All-Academic selection, Burcham sports a 3.91 grade point average in Studio Production and Broadcast Journalism.
