Volleyball Rolls On With A Four-Set Road Triumph Over Georgian Court
UB Now 5-0 In Conference Play And 12-3 Overall
Lakewood, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team stayed red-hot on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights picked up their second straight win and eighth victory in their last nine outings with a four-set road triumph over the host Lions of Georgian Court University, 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21. Saturday's win keeps the Purple Knights unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at 5-0, and UB ups its overall record to 12-3. GCU is now an even 7-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
Freshman Hailey Jessen (highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Bridgeport offensive attack with a total of 17 kills.
She was joined in double-digit kills by classmate Grace Presswood (S. Dennis, Mass.), who finished with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, plus Datari Mathis (Grad., Weathersfield, Conn.) with 10 kills.
Sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) was just short of double-double as she tied for the team lead in digs with Isabella Carmona-Bailey (So., McKinney, Tex.) at 11, and she added nine kills with an impressive .471 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Ariz.) had another fine all-around afternoon directing the Bridgeport offense with 46 digs, contributing seven digs, five service aces and three kills for the winners.
Up next, the UB volleyball team plays an important early season CACC match at Dominican University New York on Thursday evening. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
