Men’s Soccer Dominates Dominican For Senior Night Win
UB Men’s Soccer’s offensive onslaught led to a 7-0 victory over Dominican University on Senior Night.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team ended the 2023 regular season in style Wednesday evening, scoring seven goals against Dominican University on Senior Night. The Purple Knights outshot the Chargers 27 to one on the evening to pave way for the comfortable victory. The win improves UB's season record to 8-6-3 overall, 7-3-1 in CACC play and clinches the third seed in the CACC playoffs and home field advantage.
UB started the day by recognizing seven seniors and their contributions to the program during their time there. Those members of UB men's soccer were Joshua Lilly (Grad., London England), Marcel Chavez (Sr., Chicopee, Mass.),Ian Spetnagel (Grad., Denver, Colo.), Andrea Soliani (Grad., Piacenza, Italy), Josef Preci (Grad., Savona, Italy), Josh Erdos (Sr., Stratford, Conn.) and Jose Uresti (Jr., Pharr, Tex.).
UB wasted no time to open scoring with Sophomore Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) receiving a ball on the turn from Andrea Soliani just 30 second into the action. Kissel calmly whipped the ball across goal to take an early 1-0 UB lead.
35 minutes would pass before the next ripple of the net. The silence would be broken by Freshman Joao Miranda (Bridgeport, Conn.) after a 40-yard diagonal ball over the top by Josh Erdos put him into a one versus one. Miranda rose to the occasion, slipping the ball past the Charger goalkeeper for his fourth goal of the season.
The teams would head to the locker rooms with UB leading Dominican 2-0 at the break.
Jose Uresti got things started in the second half in the 57th minute afterJakob Reinhard (So., Marburg, Germany) redirected a fizzed in pass through the Charger defensive line into his path. Uresti got to the ball first inside the box, hit it first time and found the bottom left corner for his first goal of the season, making it 3-0 UB.
The first of tonight's captains to score was Ian Spetnagel, who combined with Freshman Lapo Romieri (Milan, Italy) inside the Charger penalty area to tally his second goal of the season.
The second designated captain of the evening also would find the back of the net. Josh Erdos would score his first goal of the season after Maximilian Kissel beat his defender on the edge of the box, played a cross across the mouth of goal and Erdos jumped on the chance from six yard out.
Kissel would record his third hattrick of the season after being played through the heart of the Dominican defense by Joao Miranda's 20-yard pass in the 82nd minute for his second goal of the night. The third goal came in the 87th minute after Marcel Chavez rolled the ball through to the running Kissel who once again beat the keeper in a one versus one situation for his 16th goal of the season.
The final buzzer would sound with Bridgeport winners, 7-0 over Dominican University.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team secured the number three seed in the CACC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament and will host the number six seed, Caldwell University Cougars on Monday, November sixth at 1:00 p.m.
