Brownell Scores Twice, As Women's Soccer Blanks Felician 3-0

Rutherford, N.J. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team picked up its first win of the 2023 season on Wednesday afternoon against Felician University by a score of 3-0 at Tryon Field.

STAC improves to 1-2 on the young season, while Felician falls to 0-3-2.

Rachel Brownell tallied two unassisted goals in the match, while Jo Porter added her first collegiate goal during the proceedings. In net, keepers Haley Liss and Catalena Robson combined to pitch a shutout, with Liss stopping two shots and Robson turning back one.

How it Happened

  • 20th Minute - On a free kick, about five yards from the goal, Rachael Brownell put her strike directly on frame to the top corner of the net beating Felician keeper Alexis Lambertino to make it 1-0 STAC.
  • 74th Minute - Brownell's second goal came on her heads up play to corral a loose ball and beat a Golden Falcon's defender. A subsequent shot by the senior then deflected off of another defender and made its way to the top corner of the net, beating Lambertino again to give the Spartans a 2-0 advantage.
  • 77th Minute - A Jasmine Blue cross found the foot of Jo Porter, who went one-on-one with Alexis Lambertino. Porter put a soft pass past the Felician keeper and to the back of the net to make it 3-0 for the maroon and gold.
