Women’s Tennis Blanks Goldey-Beacom, 7-0, to Sweep Season Series

WILMINGTON, Del. - - After dropping its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match of the year on Tuesday, the Wilmington University women's tennis team rebounded with a 7-0 shutout of Goldey-Beacom on Saturday at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (5-1, 5-1 CACC) won every match of the day, with only one of the singles matches going to a second set tiebreaker.

Jess Purdy and Fenna Swaan won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, while Alva Norberg and Kushi Khandoji won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2. Valentina Ivankovic and Marley Trifunovic made it a clean sweep in the doubles competition with a 6-3 win at No. 3.

Marley Trifunovic won all 12 games she played, blanking her opponent, 6-0 and 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Alva Norberg only gave up two games in her match, as she won at No. 3 singles, 6-1 and 6-1. Jess Purdy and Gloria Barcaro only gave up three games in their matches as well, as Jess Purdy won at No. 2 singles, 6-3 and 6-0, and Gloria Barcaro won at No. 6 singles, 6-1 and 6-2.

Larize Nel kept the trend going, only allowing four games to get away from her at No. 5 singles, winning, 6-3 and 6-1. Kushi Khandoji made it a clean sweep against the Lightning at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4 and 7-6 (7-4).

Saturday's win completes the regular season sweep of Goldey-Beacom, winning 7-0 on September 19 as well.

The Wildcats will play at the Delcastle Tennis Center once again this week, this time as the home team on Wednesday. They'll welcome Post to Delaware with the first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
