Lakewood, N.J. (4/6/24) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team fell in conference action to the Lions of Georgian Court University this afternoon.
After the loss, the Chargers fall to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Lions improve to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Bryce Layton (Glenville, N.Y.) started in goal for the Chargers and made 12 saves but suffered the loss. Vincent Burkhart started in goal for the Lions and made 16 saves and secured his seventh win of the season.
The Lions got off to a strong start with five goals in the first quarter and three goals in the second quarter for an 8-3 lead by halftime.
GCU opened the scoring in the second half with four straight goals and finished the third quarter with two unanswered goals. Both teams each scored twice in the fourth quarter and the Lions secured the 16-7 victory.
Zachary Souza (Stratford, Conn.) led the way for the Chargers with a hat trick and picked up two ground balls. Chad Keyser (Kingston, N.Y.) scored two goals and recorded one assist. Kyle Benedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored one goal and added one assist while Josh Wesneski (Forty Fort, Pa.) added one goal.
Brenden O'Connor (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) finished with two assists and four ground balls while Jordan Scott (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they return home to host Post University on O'Brien Field at 3:30 PM.
