Eight-run fifth inning leads to 11-2 win over Caldwell

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. – Tim Zupkus and Cory Bright totaled three hits apiece to lead the Bentley baseball team to an 11-2 win over Caldwell Tuesday.

Zupkus finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI, three runs scored, and a triple. Bright went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Matt Tyman earned his first win with a 5.1-inning start, yielding just one earned run on six hits and no walks. He struck out four batters.

The Falcons set the tone right away by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Hunter Smith began the game by reaching base on an error, and he moved into scoring position by swiping second base.

Hunter easily scored on a triple hit by Zupkus, and then Zupkus trotted home on a base knock by Bright. Bright later came in to score on an error.

Bentley erupted for an eight-run fifth inning. The rally included an RBI double by Bright, bases-loaded walks by Tommy Goonan, Rene Nunez, and Brendan Sencaj, and a two-run single from Zupkus.   

Bentley remains in Florida for a non-conference game against New Haven Wednesday, March 13, at 10 a.m.
