Baseball: Ravens Drop Final Game in South Carolina to Felician, 10-4

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C (2/25/2024) -- In the final game of their Southern road trip, the Franklin Pierce baseball team fell to Felician University 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Ebbets Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the top of the first, Franklin Pierce scored two runs highlighted by a home run from sophomore transfer first baseman Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, MA). For DeAndrade, the long ball marked his second of the season.

• In the bottom of the third, Felician cut the Franklin Pierce lead in half when sophomore infielder Haiden Walters had an RBI double, scoring junior infielder Cole Porter. In the top of the fifth, sophomore outfielder Joey Acker (Upton, MA) hit a two-run home run for his first homer of the season to give Franklin Pierce a 4-1 lead. 

• The Golden Falcons scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for the first time. Porter had an RBI double, scoring junior outfielder Chris Biolsi to cut the Ravens in half. Then, Walters picked up his second double of the afternoon, and Porter scored his second run. Later in the inning, sophomore outfielder Thomas Kendrick hit a two-run home run for his first home run of the season to give Felician a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, graduate second baseman Alex Torres had an RBI single, scoring freshman outfielder Andrew DeAngelis to make it 6-4 Golden Falcons. 

• In the bottom of the seventh, Felician scored four more runs. The Golden Falcons had bases loaded, and sophomore catcher Jose David Medrano was hit by a pitch, which scored a run. Then, DeAngelis had an RBI sacrifice fly to left field, and Kendrick scored. To top it off, Biolsi had a two RBI double

• Felician scored nine unanswered runs to beat Franklin Pierce 10-4 for their third win of the season.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

• Graduate pitcher Chaz Powell (Stamford, CT) got his first start of the season and pitched 4.1 innings. He gave up four hits, three runs, one walk, and struck out three batters. He picked up the loss. 

• Sophomore pitcher Drew DeLucia (Medway, MA) relieved Powell and pitched one inning. He gave up three hits, three runs, and struck out no batters. Senior pitcher Tyler McDonald (Haverhill, MA) came in relief and pitched two-thirds of an inning. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter. 

• Freshman pitcher Michael Bokis (North Brookfield, MA) made his second appearance in relief and closed out the game. He pitched the final two innings and gave up two hits, one run, two walks, and struck out three batters. 

• Graduate shortstop Ian Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) went four for five and scored two runs. His brother, Eli (Cheshire, CT), went two for four. 

• Both teams had 10 hits. Franklin Pierce lost their third straight game. 

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens hit the road to Flushing, New York, on Friday, March 1, to take on Queens College and Post University at Hennekens Stadium. They play Queens College at 10:30 AM and Post at 1 PM.
