Rams Win Doubleheader Over Wildcats; Takes Series Against Wilmington
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (24-12, 12-5) looked to stay atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division as they looked to finish their series against Wilmington University of Delaware (21-6, 10-7) on a high note. The Rams ran away with game one 16-5 in seven innings while holding onto a close game two against Wilmington 3-2 to earn the sweep in Saturday afternoon competition.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 16-5 (SEVEN INNINGS)
The Rams got out to an early 4-0 lead in the first. A throwing error by the third basemam off a Joshua Lopez hit got Chris McLean to homeplate. Gabe Silva hitting a double and Justin Espinal nailing a single added three more runs in the inning for the Rams. The Wildcats slowly got closer to Jefferson's lead as they scored two in the second and one in the third, trailing the Rams 4-3.
Another Joshu. Lopez single brought home a Ram runner to get a score in the third inning, but Jefferson put everything together with a 10-run fourth inning. McLean hit a single for a score while a flyball that wasn't handled by Wilmington added another run on the board. A fielder's choice that turned into a shortstop error put another Ram at homeplate. Wildcats' had a wild pitch, giving Marquise Wood the chance to get in another Jefferson score. Another fielder's choice and two singles put together three more on the board, with a two-run homerun by McLean finished the fourth inning for Jefferson as they made their lead 15-3.
Justin Espinal got out on a ground out by shortstop, but helped Joshu. Lopez get another run on the board in the fifth inning. Wilmington got two runs off a homerun, but the Rams held strong, finishing game one 16-5 in seven innings.

Most of the scoring went through the first inning. Wilmington started it off with a solo homerun to get in the lead 1-0. Jefferson put all three runs in bottom of the first. Josh Lopez single to the left field got him on base, while an error by the left fielder allowed McLean to get on the board. Joshu. Lopez got a two-run homerun as the Rams went up 3-1 in the game.
A wild pitch put a run in for Wilmington to get within one of the lead in the fourth inning, but Jefferson held the Wildcats' to as far as second base after that and held strong for a 3-2 victory in game two, securing the doubleheader and series advantage over Wilmington.
