Women’s Soccer Draws with Goldey-Beacom, 1-1

Wilmington, Del. – The Molloy women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 with the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning Saturday afternoon at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field. Molloy moves to 1-1-2 on the campaign, while Goldey-Beacom moves to 0-0-3.
 
How it Happened
  • The home team wasted no time putting pressure on the Lions in the opening minute. Lexy Yeager tested freshman goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz, but Muñoz was able to make the save to halt the early chance.
  • The contest settled down as neither team was able to generate a shot for the next eight minutes.
  • Goldey-Beacom generated two shots in the 10th minute, 13 seconds apart, but both were sent wide of target.
  • Graduate student Caitlin Kennedy tallied the first shot of the contest for Molloy in the 16th minute but pushed it wide right.
  • Muñoz made her second save of the half in the 18th minute to keep the game scoreless.
  • Kennedy created an opportunity once again in the 21st minute but her shot was saved to prevent Molloy from cracking the scoreboard.
  • Following a hydration break, the cardinal and white's offense begin to settle in putting two shots on goal. Kennedy and freshman Isabella Muro had their shots saved by Goldey-Beacom goalkeeper Nikki Cashin.
  • In the 36th minute, junior Natalia Piotrowski saw her header go high of target.
  • The Lions had one final scoring opportunity in the 45th minute, but sophomore Mikaela Barriga put her shot wide left to end the half scoreless.
  • Coming out of halftime, Muro, forced another save from the Lightning goalie in the 52nd minute.
  • Goldey-Beacom responded minutes later with a scoring chance but was saved, this time by senior Shannon Kilian who replaced Muñoz at the half.
  • Molloy broke through in the 59th minute. A freshman connection, Muro found Edith Vanegas who buried her first goal of her collegiate career to put the Lions in front, 1-0.
  • After a hydration break in the second half, the home team threated with a shot on target that was denied by Kilian in the 70th minute.
  • Seven minutes later, Goldey-Beacom found the equalizer off the foot of Lexi Coppola to knot the contest at one.
  • With under five minutes remaining, the Lightning threated with a chance, but Kilian stood strong in goal to make a save.
  • The Lions put together one final rush in the 89th minute, when Kennedy found space to fire a shot, but was denied by the home teams goalkeeper to end the contest in a 1-1 draw.

  • Muro tallied her first career point with an assist and added two shots on goal.
  • Kennedy paced the team with six shots, including three on goal.
  • In goal, Muñoz made two saves and Kilian denied three shots.
Up Next
The Lions will return to Delaware Wednesday (Sept. 13) to play Wilmington. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
