UB Back In Action On Saturday At Chestnut Hill
Bridgeport, Conn.-Luck was not on the side of the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team on Tuesday night at Knights Field, as the Purple Knights fell in a tight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against the visiting Post University Eagles, 1-0. UB is now 3-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. Post is now 4-1-2 overall and remains unbeaten in the CACC at 3-0-0.
The visiting Eagles scored the lone goal of the match late in the first half off a set piece when Artiz Uriate flicked home a header off a free kick from Andrea Berti with just 3:32 to play in the opening stanza.
The score turned out to be the match's only goal as the Purple Knights had a chance to the contest with 19:50 remaining to play, but a penalty kick from junior Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) hit the inside of the right post after beating goalkeeper Soren Jensen but somehow din not cross the line. Sousa had drawn the spot kick himself, as he was brought down in the box.
Both Jensen and Bridgeport's Hugo Franceschi (Fr. Toulouse, France) made two saves on the night in their respective nets.
Both teams took 10 shots in the match, and Post finished with an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Tuesday also marked the first time this season the UB has been shutout by an opponent.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will travel to Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon for another CACC match against Chestnut Hill College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in the City of Brotherly Love.
