Baseball Beats Holy Family in Seven Innings
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball (26-13, 14-6) had their first ever matchup on the mound against Holy Family University (19-22, 11-9) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition. The Rams were able to start off strong and kept that momentum throughout the match, defeating the Tigers 14-3 in seven innings to push closer for a top seed in the CACC Championships.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Rams put up five runs to begin the game, with Marquise Wood hitting a single to right center for a score to start the day off. Joshua Lopez single up the middle put up another run while Justin Espinal had a two-run single through the left side for Jefferson to be up 4-0. Gabe Silva was able to steal third, but a throwing error by the pitcher gave him the chance to round the base and have the Rams' lead be 5-0. Holy Family put up two runs in the bottom of the same inning, trailing 5-2 after one inning.
Wood got another Ram runner to homeplate in the second inning, this time by way of a double to center field. After a scoreless third inning, Jefferson went to get a four-run inning from two singles by Wood and Matt Vita, Silva double to left center, and an error by the shortstop that made the lead 11-2. The Tigers were able to get a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, trailing by eight runs to Jefferson.
The fifth ended the scoring barrage from the Rams, with two sacrifice flies by Joshu. Lopez and Espinal while Silva had another single through the left side to secure their 14-3 lead. Holy Family was unable to make past first base in the last three innings, giving Jefferson the victory over the Tigers.
