Winning Streak Stretches to Eight Straight as Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Molloy, 18-15, on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - - Three goals to close out the third quarter gave the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team the lead for good, defeating Molloy, 18-15, in the 2024 regular season finale on Friday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

In the win, Logan Stinson set new single-season program records with 58 goals and 73 points. Jacob Herman became the second player in program history to record 200 career points, now with 206. The win also gave head coach Christian Zwickert his 100th career victory as a college coach. 

The teams traded the first six goals of the game before Logan Stinson and Miles Crouse scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-3 with 6:02 to play. Molloy ended the first quarter by scoring the final three goals, taking a 6-4 lead into the second frame.

The Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter, getting goals from Stinson, two man-up goals by Jimmy Cava, Miles Crouse, Josh Weston, and another man-up goal by TJ Caton to take their largest lead of the game, 10-6, with 6:40 to play before the half. Molloy closed the gap to end the half, scoring the final two goals to send the game into the break with the Wildcats leading, 10-8.

Molloy then scored the first two goals of the third quarter to tie the game, 10-10, before Crouse and Stinson scored back-to-back to regain a two-goal lead, 12-10. The Lions answered again with back-to-back goals to tie the game, 12-12, but then the Wildcats scored three goals in the final 2:31 to take the lead for good. Herman scored off a feed from Crouse before Crouse scored from TJ Caton. The Wildcats then turned a turnover into a man-down goal with 25 second left, as Logan Stinson made it a 15-12 game off a feed from Carter Earl.

Molloy started the fourth quarter with a goal but then Miles Crouse and Josh Weston scored back-to-back to open a 17-13 lead late in the fourth quarter. Molloy made one last effort to get back into the game, scoring two goals to get within 17-15, but then Logan Stinson capped the scoring with 39 seconds left in transition from Ryan McCrary to settle the score, 18-15.

Miles Crouse led Friday with nine points, scoring five goals while adding four assists. Jacob Herman scored seven points with two goals and five assists while Logan Stinson ended with six points with five goals and an assist. Brendan Leonard led the defense with three caused turnovers while TJ Caton had four ground balls to go with a goal and an assist. Daniel Flynn recorded 12 saves in the win on Friday.

The Wildcats await the winner of the CACC Tournament First Round game between No. 4 Post and No. 5 Bridgeport which will be played on Sunday. The CACC Tournament Semifinal will be hosted at the WU Athletics Complex on Wednesday, May 1, with a 3:30 p.m. start time.
