PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Playing their second road doubleheader of the week, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned a pair of wins (5-1, 8-0) at Jefferson University on Saturday. The Purple Knights (20-20, 17-5, CACC) have now won 11 of their last 14 games.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 5, Jefferson 1
Mya Jones and Kaite Burawski led the way for UB in the opener. Jones went 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Burawski tossed a complete-game victory.
Jones hammered a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give Bridgeport a 4-0 lead. Jones now has 10 career long balls.
Burawski, meanwhile, didn't allow an earned run across seven innings of work. She finished with six strikeouts while yielding just four total hits.
Burawski is now 11-9 this season with an ERA of 2.92. She is also ranked second in the CACC in total strikeouts this season (176).
Grace Derita, Samantha Schiebe, Angela Oros, and Madison D'Amato all had two hits in the first game.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 8, Jefferson 0 (Five Innings)
The Purple Knights tallied all eight of their runs in the first inning of the finale. UB's first frame featured a total of eight hits, four steals and a walk.
Sydnee Perreault and Hailey Kim each knocked in a pair of runs with singles while Meg McFarland drove in two with a triple. Kim went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Holding an immediate 8-0 lead, sophomore Vise Zarate dominated in the circle. The right-hander allowed just one hit across five scoreless innings. She walked only one batter.
