Orangeburg, N.Y. (8/31/23) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team fell in their opening game of the 2023 season to the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University in non-conference action.
The Lady Chargers fall to 0-1 overall on the season while ESU improves to 1-0. Nelly Arvidsson (Stockholm, Sweden) started in goal for Dominican and made 10 total saves.
Both teams played a scoreless first half while ESU started the game strong offensively with nine total shots. Arvidsson made eight out of her ten saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless.
The Warriors took the lead just over three minutes into the first half after Rebecca Kotula scored her first of the season.
ESU extended their lead after Millie Smith scored at the 72:13 mark and Carina Gasparini scored at the 82:11 mark for the 3-0 advantage.
Natalie Schooley and Emily Wineburg each recorded assists in the victory.
Stella Paton (Edinburgh, Scotland) entered the game in goal for Dominican and made two saves in 17:36 of action.
Dominican will look to bounce back this Saturday when they host Saint Michael's College at the Town of Haverstraw Recreational Facility at 12:00 PM.
