UDC Drops Non-Conference Match Up Against Chestnut Hill 56-63

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to Chestnut Hill 56-63, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex Gymnasium. The Firebirds fall to 5-5 on the season and the Griffins improved to 5-4.

Seven players made it on to the scoreboard for the Firebirds with Latavia Jackson and Shanell Haskins leading the way with 12 and 10 points. Jackson also posted seven rebounds and a game high five steals. Janiya Smith came off the bench to add nine points and Kensley Benjamin posted eight points going 2-3 from behind the arc.

Chestnut Hill opened a nine point lead in the first quarter but UDC fought back to make it a one point posession going into the half. A layup by Smith followed by a three pointer by Benjamin gave the home team their first lead of the game with 4:48 remaining in the third quarter. 

The fourth quarter saw UDC struggle offensively scoring only nine points in the ten minute span compared to their opponents 17, reslting in their first home loss of the season.

The Firebirds shot at 35.1% from the field, compared to the Griffins 41.5%. Chestnut Hill outrebounded UDC (45-31) and while the home team forced more turnovers, the visitors were able to convert more points off turnovers. 

Next, UP, UDC (5-5, 2-1 ECC) will travel to PA, for a non-conference match up against Millersville next Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM
