Baseball Takes 10-5 Victory Against D'Youville
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (15-9) looked to get their fourth straight win as they faced D'Youville University (11-12) in Friday afternoon action. The Rams scoreda run in the first six innings as they took a 10-5 win over the Saints.
WHAT HAPPENED
After D'Youville took a run in the top of the first, Jefferson responded with two of their own as Gabe Silva hit a two-run single for Jefferson, taking the lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the contest. Jay Kalieta delivered a single homerun in the second inning. A Saint's error got Marquise Wood to homeplate while Kalieta's double earned another run in the bottom of the third, adding to Jefferson's lead 5-4.
D'Youville put a run in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2 only for Wood to deliver his own homerun in the bottom of the same inning to have the Rams' hold a four run lead once again. The Saints got within one run as a three-run homerun made the game 6-5. Matt Vita laid a single to through the left side for Silva to score while he made homeplate himself by Wood's triple down the right line, gaining back a multi-run lead for Jefferson. The scoring ended for both sides by way of a Joshua Lopez two-run single, putting the lead at 10-5 for the Rams.
D'Youville had two opportunities to score near the end of the game, with a runner on second and third with one out at the bottom of the eighth was thwarted off a strike and flyout to right field. The Saints had one last opportunity in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded. Jefferson held strong, getting a strike for the last out held the Rams' 10-5 lead and gave them the win.
