Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Goldey-Beacom 


PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (10-8, 1-2) looked to conclude their series with the Lightning on Friday. The Rams dropped their two matchups with Goldey-Beacom College (16-9, 2-1) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South division competition. Jefferson fell in the first game 19-11 and 11-0 in game two. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME ONE: L, 19-11
 
The Rams got out early in the first game to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Josh Lopez drove Gabe Silva home early while he got a run of his own alongside Jay Kalieta by Joshua Lopez hitting a three-run homerun for an early Jefferson lead. Goldey-Beacom responded with a homer of their own, cutting it to a 4-1 lead for the Rams. An error by the Lightning allowed Justin Egner to score for a 5-1 advantage. A double homer got Goldey-Beacom made them trail 5-3 in the game at the top of the fourth. Egner knocked a two-run triple in the bottom of the same inning, while Chris McLean got him to homeplate from a single to right center, pushing a 8-3 lead over Goldey-Beacom. 

The Lightning went to score 16 run in five innings to retake the lead and earn the first game victory over Jefferson. Goldey-Beacom hit five of their seven homeruns in that stretch. After the Lightning scored six runs in the top of the inning, The Rams got within two runs in the seventh, when Joshu. Lopez two-run single and Alexander Angulo sacrifice fly to left field put it at 12-10. Goldey-Beacom brought six runs in the ninth to secure the 19-11 win.

GAME TWO: L, 11-0 
Goldey-Beacom went out to take game two, jumping ahead 2-0 with a two-run homerun in the second inning. Four runs in the third and five runs in the final three innings to get the Lightning to the 11-0 win over the Rams. Jefferson got close to scoring in the bottom of the second, with Alex Gonzalez on second and Diego Santiago on third from a wild pitch, but a grounded out to the pitcher ended that opportunity.

UP NEXT 
Jefferson will look to bounce back as the Rams head on the road for CACC competition on Sunday, March 24 when they face Dominican University of New York in a doubleheader. The first pitch is to be thrown at 12 p.m.
