Softball Drops 2-1 Contest at Second-Seeded Adelphi in NCAA East Regional
Bridgeport will now play the No. 3 seed, Pace, tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – In the first round of the 2024 NCAA East Regional, the University of Bridgeport's softball team was defeated by second-seeded Adelphi on Thursday by a score of 2-1. The Purple Knights will now enter the loser's side of the draw and will have an elimination game against third-seeded Pace tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
Predicted to be a tight contest between two great pitchers, Thursday's game met expectations. UB's Kaite Burawski earned the tough-luck loss after allowing just the two runs on six hits across six innings.
Burawski's performance puts her ERA at a paltry 2.50 this season in 171 innings pitched.
UB struck first on Thursday courtesy of a sac fly by Samantha Schiebe in the fourth inning. Madison D'Amato scored on the play after leading off the inning with a single.
Tied 1-1 in the sixth, Bridgeport had its chance to regain the lead but were unable to score with runners on first and third with one out.
UB's offense in total featured three singles off the bats of D'Amato, Mya Jones, and Angela Oros.
