Sparkill, N.Y. - Finally playing it's first home game of the 2023 Season, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team fell in a hard fought battle to Georgian Court University 1-0 on Friday at Spartan Field.
STAC drops to 1-4-0 overall, while Georgian Court improves to 1-3-3 on the year.
Freshmen goalkeepers Haley Liss and Catalena Robson combined to stop three of four shots faced in the non-conference match.
The only goal of the game came before the end of the first half for the visiting Lions, when a Maddie Faulkner header found the foot of teammate Abby Kennelly, who put a shot past STAC keeper Haley Liss to make it 1-0.
Despite the Spartans having several Grade A scoring chances, especially in the second half, St. Thomas Aquinas was unable to solve Georgian Court keeper Morgan Highland, who earned the complete game shutout in her first-ever collegiate start.
How it Happened
- 40th Minute - Off of a shot by Maddie Faulkner, which hit the crossbar, a series of attempted clears by the STAC defense corps ensued. In the subsequent scrum inside the box, a determined Faulkner, directed one of those attempted clears with her head toward the foot of Abby Kennelly for her second goal of the season.
