GRELLA NETS 100TH CAREER GOAL AS DOMINICAN TOPS RAMS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/6/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team turned away the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University in CACC action this afternoon on O'Brien Field.
With the win, the Lady Chargers extend their winning streak to seven games and improve to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The Rams fall to 4-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Sophomore Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) scored her 100th career goal on a free position shot in the second quarter.
Grella finished with three goals and one assist in the win while Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) scored a team-high four goals and added two assists and three draw controls. Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) each finished with two goals.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) finished with one goal and two assists while also picking up three ground balls and five draw controls. Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) picked up a team-high six ground balls while Jenna Rigo (East Islip, N.Y.) added three ground balls.
The game was tied at 2-2 after the first quarter and the Lady Chargers outscored the Rams 5-1 in the second quarter including three straight goals to end the half with a 7-3 lead.
TJU opened the third quarter with consecutive goals by Erin Avanzato to cut the deficit to 7-5, but DU went on a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 11-5 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Both teams each scored twice in the fourth quarter and the Lady Chargers secured the 13-7 victory.
Goalkeeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) recorded eight saves and earned her ninth win of the season. TJU keeper Kalyn Ammerlaan made 11 saves but suffered the loss.
Avanzato scored a team-high four goals for the Rams while Carina Raymond scored two goals and Lynn Hardy finished with one goal.
The Lady Chargers return to action at home on Tuesday afternoon when they host Caldwell University at 3:30 PM on O'Brien Field.
