Purple Knights Tame Bears At Bloomfield
UB’s potent offense leads to a convincing 5-0 victory over Bloomfield College.
Bloomfield, N.J. – The University of Bridgeport men’s soccer got back in the win column Wednesday evening after a 5-0 road victory over CACC opponents Bloomfield College. The Purple Knights outshot the Bears 31-13 while hitting the target 22 times to Bloomfield’s five. The offensive prowess led to the win that improves UB to a 6-5-3 overall record and 5-2-1 in the conference.
Bridgeport got a fortuitous bounce leading to a Bloomfield own goal, opening scoring in the 20th minute. UB followed this up in the 34th minute as Jr. Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) found the back of the net, being assisted by Jr. Juan Carlos Magdaleno (Hidalgo, Tex.), to make it 2-0 before the break.
Although 30 minutes would pass before the next goal, Bridgeport would apply constant pressure to Bloomfield. Goalkeeper Jomar Vizcaino performed valiantly in net for the Bears, saving 16 of the 21 shots faced on the evening.
Eventually, the wall would be penetrated with Lucas Sousa striking again in the 64th minute from a Josef Preci (Grad., Savona, Italy) assist. Sousa’s second goal of the night brings his season tally to four goals while adding four assists.
Max Kissel (So., Wiesbaden, Germany) would score the fourth Bridgeport goal, unassisted in the 77th minute. This puts Kissel into the double digit mark with 10 goals on the year.
The fifth and final UB goal was tallied by Ian Spetnagel (Grad., Denver, Colo.) for his first of the year and was assisted by Marcel Chavez (Sr., Springfield, Mass.).
Fr. goalkeeper Hugo Franceschi (Toulouse, France) got the shutout win in goal for Bridgeport while making four saves.
Up next, the UB men’s soccer team are back in action Tuesday, October 24th as the challenge the Cougars of Caldwell University in Caldwell, N.J. at 3:00 p.m.
