Baseball Defeats Adelphi in Five-Inning Rainy Game
PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (14-9) hosted Adelphi University (8-11) in non-conference baseball competition. After five innings, the matchup was concluded with the Rams holding a 7-4 advantage over the Panthers, giving them the victory on Wednesday afternoon.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Rams scored early with three runs in the first inning. A wild pitch allowed Justin Egner to get the first score on the day. A ground out on Joshua Lopez brought in Josh Lopez for the second run. A Panther error brought Marquise Wood to homeplate, giving Jefferson the 3-0 lead.
Adelphi responded with four runs in the fourth inning, with a three-run homerun by Robinson and a wild pitch score for the Panthers to go up 4-3. Looking to respond quickly, Jefferson put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning. A Jay Kalieta bunt was errored by Adelphi, giving Matt Vita and Justin Espinal the opportunity to score and retake the lead for the Rams. Egner and Wood both hit singles to right field, letting two runs to homeplate for a 7-4 lead in favor of Jefferson.
During the fifth inning, the rain began to fall down. Jefferson was able to complete the bottom of the fifth, letting the game be complete and allowing the Rams the 7-4 victory.
