Purple Knights Fall Short Against Saint Anselm
Men’s Basketball stayed with in reach of the Hawks but came up just short in a close Wednesday night loss.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team lost a close battle with non-conference Saint Anselm College Wednesday night. The Hawks edged past the Purple Knights 85-79. The loss drops UB's overall season record to 1-2.
Saint Anselm came out firing, getting out to a 10-3 lead five minutes into the action. Bridgeport fought back, forcing 15 turnovers throughout the game and outshooting their opponent from three-point range by a factor of two, 50.0 percent to the Hawks 25.0 percent.
With three minutes left on the clock, the Purples Knights trailed by six points, 72-76. Two quick steals and corresponding layups tied the game at 76 points a piece with two minutes remaining. The Hawks were able to buckle down and with UB in foul trouble, chip away at the clock and add points from the free throw line.
The score at the final buzzer read Saint Anslem 85, Bridgeport 79.
Senior Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.) had the hot hand down the stretch for the purple Knights, scoring a team-high 19 points, as he went 3-for-7 from long range while adding four rebounds and three steals.
Sharpshooter Ryan Moore (Rs-Jr., West Palm Beach, FL) added 17 points, going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc along with seven rebounds and two assists.
Jayden Iturmendi (Rs-Sr., York, Pa.) tallied 13 points in addition to five rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Up next, UB will host the Knights from Queens College for a Saturday afternoon joust at 3:00 p.m. here at the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
