New Haven, Conn.-Junior Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) put home his first goal of the season from the penalty spot with 3:15 remaining in the second half to lift the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to a hard-fought, 1-1, road draw at Southern Connecticut State University on Sunday night. UB is now 0-1-1 so far in 2023, and SCSU remains unbeaten at 1-0-1.
The host Owls scored their lone goal late in the first half when Zico Groenveld found the back of net with just under four minutes to go in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Sunday's tilt was an evenly played contest with both squads attempting eight shots.
UB freshman goalkeeper Hugo Franceschi (Toulouse, France) made two saves in net, and SCSU keeper Devin Juan was credited with four stops.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team returns to Knights Field on Wednesday evening to host Franklin Pierce University at 6:00 p.m.
