Men's Hoops Extends Winning Streak To Three With A 98-81 Home Victory Over Holy Family
Malcolm Moye Scores A Game-High 22 Points For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team spotted the visiting Holy Family University Tigers an 8-0 advantage to begin the game, but the host Purple Knights roared back to post a 98-81 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. UB, winners of three games in a row, are now 10-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play. HFU slips to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in the CACC.
Bridgeport shot the ball well on Saturday knocking down 38-of-75 shots (50.7%), and the Purple Knights' defense turned 19 Tigers' turnovers into a total of 27 points.
Senior Malcolm Moye (Windsor, Conn.) led a balanced Bridgeport offensive attack that saw four Purple Knights reached double figures with a game-high 22 points.
Moye was joined in double digits by classmates Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.) with 15 points and Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.) with 12 points in just eight minutes of action.
Junior D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) rounded out the UB quartet in double-figure scoring with 11 points, and he pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Sophomore Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y.) had a solid all-around game for the winners dishing off eights assists, making four steals, scoring six points and grabbing a pair of rebounds.
Malik Archer and Eric Esposito led Holy Family, as they each netted 19 points.
The UB men's basketball team will look to run its winning streak four at home on Wednesday evening, when the Purple Knights host an important CACC contest against local rival Post University. Game time is set for around 7:00 p.m. following the completion of the Purple Knights/Eagles women's game that will begin at 5:00 p.m.
