Dominican Tabbed as Top Team in CACC in Preseason Voting
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 13, 2013) – The 2012 Conference Champion Chargers have been picked to finish atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in 2013, as voted upon by the 14 CACC head softball coaches.
Dominican, three-time CACC Conference Champions, earned 10 first-place votes as the Chargers were picked to win their fourth Championship in 2013. Last season it took Dominican five innings to claim their third title. A No. 6 seed in the East Regional 2 site, the Chargers promptly advanced to the East Regional 2 Final with a 4-2 victory over C.W. Post and a 7-3 win against Malloy. However, Malloy would end Dominican's season with a pair of victories, 5-0 and 4-3.
Caldwell College (RV), picked to finish a close second to Dominican in the CACC this season, had three first-place votes and 184 points. Last season, Caldwell also earned a berth post-season play with an at large berth to the East Region 1 tournament. The Cougars were awarded a No. 4 seed, but dropped their first game 4-3 to Mass.-Lowell, taking the hard way to their Regional Final. Caldwell was able to bounce back in their next game, defeating Assumption 3-0 and then handed Mass.-Lowell a 2-1 defeat to advance to the Regional Final where Southern Connecticut handed the Cougars a 4-1 loss to end their season.
Wilmington earned the final first-place vote as the Conference coaches tabbed the Wildcats to finish third in the CACC this season under first-year head coach, Lauren Rizzo.
Georgian Court and Bloomfield College round out the top five with 147 points and 133 points, respectively.
