Waters Named to Capital One Academic All-District Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Team
University of the Sciences women’s cross country runner Kristin Waters has been named to the Division II Capital One Academic All-District women's track & field/cross country team for District I. Waters was one of ten cross country/track and field athletes selected from schools in the East Region. The team is voted on by the sports information directors from the East region schools.
Waters (West Genesee HS/Syracuse, N.Y.) is a student in USciences doctor of pharmacy program. The senior runner had one of her best seasons during the fall of 2012, leading the Devils to a third place finish at the 2012 CACC Championship meet. Waters placed 20th in the meet with a season best time of 21:40. She concluded her career by participating in her fourth consecutive NCAA East Region Championship meet, recording a personal-best time of 25:20 for the 6,000-meter course. The Devils earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors in each of Waters' four seasons.
The Syracuse native was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Fall Academic three times (2010-2012) and earned Philadelphia Area All-Academic Team honors in 2010 and USTFCCCA Division II Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team honors 2009. She is also a two-time Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award winner.
In 2012-13, Waters served as the captain of the women's team. She is also a member of the student-athlete advisory committee, and an on-campus peer mentor. Waters was also recently inducted into the pharmacy honor society, Rho Chi and was one of the first two recipients of the Paul E. Klimitas Honorary Scholarship, given to an extraordinary intercollegiate athlete who demonstrates "strong commitment to excellence in the classroom, in athletic competition, and in the community."
Waters was the only cross country runner from a CACC school selected to this year’s all-district team. Student-Athletes selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Teams will advance to the national ballot which is voted on by members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee and the Division II Capital One Academic All-America women's track & field/cross country teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
