Major Award Winners Announced for 2021 CACC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 27, 2021) -- Georgian Court University claimed four of the five major men's track & field awards announced on Thursday by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Commissioner Dan Mara. It capped a terrific spring season for the Lions, who won their second-consecutive CACC Championship earlier this month with a meet-record 262 team points at the conference event.
GCU's major award winners included Devin Martin (2021 Men's Field Athlete of the Year) Xavier Seals (2021 Men's Track Rookie of the Year), Joseph Sauchelli (2021 Men's Field Rookie of the Year) and Mike Murawski (2021 CACC Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year). The other major award winner was Bloomfield College's Mar'Quel Davis, who was crowned the 2021 CACC Men's Track Athlete of the Year.
Davis won both the 100 and 200 meters at the CACC Championship, and set meet records in both events. He also met the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark in the 100 meters at the CACC meet.
Martin won the triple jump, long jump and shared first-place honors in the pole vault at the CACC Championship. He also jumped onto the track and won the 110-meter high hurdles. Martin won the TJ with a national qualifying mark of 14.89 meters.
Seals won the 800 and 1,500 meters at the CACC Championship, while also being part of the school's 4x400-meter relay team that claimed gold in its event. He contributed 21.5 points to the Lions at the CACC Championship.
Sauchelli finished second in the javelin at the CACC Championship with a personal best throw of 54.59 meters.
Murawski was named the CACC Coach of the Year for leading the Lions to their second-straight CACC Championship and their fifth conference championship overall.
The other honor handed out on Thursday was the 2021 CACC Men's Track & Field Team Sportsmanship Award, which was presented to Holy Family University for demonstrating outstanding character during the spring season.
